Florida's Oil Spill Lawyer | Appointment Not Renewed | Breaking News

Who Represents Florida Now?
Florida has lost a champion for the victims of the BP Oil Spill. Steven Yerrid was not reappointed by the Governor as Florida's go-to guy on the Gulf Oil Spill.

"Lawyers say there are billions in damage claims unsettled in Florida, and the attorney appointed by the previous governor to represent the state's interest says Scott won't respond to his calls and letters about pursuing the state's claims against BP."

"I think it would be in the billions of dollars," Yerrid said. "It would have a substantial, if not a mitigating effect on our deficit. The money is there, there's a $20 billion fund that isn't close to being exhausted, and my question is, what are we doing about it?".

Editor's Note: This is Sure to Put the Fear in Corporate Polluters Everywhere.

"This administration has decided not to retain the services of Mr. Yerrid. We will be pursuing claims in the future with the intent not to have to litigate," said Governor's spokeswoman Amy Graham.

Thanks to Warren Elly and Fox Tampa Bay for investigating and confirming this tip we received last week. Keep it up.

  1. Going after claims without litigating - what a really scary prospect. I really hope this had the desired effect and made corporate polluters change their ways.

  2. I really have to wonder why they would get rid of the lawyer. I really hope the victims get the justice they deserve, even if they were left at a disadvantage without Steven Yerrid.
